Job Description & Requirements

  • Position Type: Full-Time
  • Salary: $25-$30/hr.
  • Schedule: Day shift, Monday-Friday

Position Summary:

Assure that nursing/health practices are in compliance with SRS and State Board of Nursing regulations. Train staff on customer health issues. Communicate information regarding customer health issues with parents/guardians, case managers, home health agencies, residential service providers, and other team members. Perform other duties as directed by the director.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities:

  • Assure and implement the safe administration, storage, labeling, and recordkeeping of customer medications.
  • Administer and oversee GT feedings.
  • Train staff on customer health issues (e.g. instruction on medications, medication dispensation, side effects, and infection control practices).
  • Assure health practices and documentation are in compliance with applicable organization, state, federal and licensing/accreditation regulations.
  • Communicate and coordinate customer health information with parents/guardians, case managers, home health agencies, and outside service providers
  • Assess customer or staff health status – provide first aid to customers and staff, seizure care, diabetic checks, etc.
  • Regularly review customer health and medication records to ensure that necessary information is documented and current – doctor’s orders, emergency authorization forms, physical forms, etc.
  • Review, develop and coordinate all preventative health, first aid, and medication policies and procedures.
  • Provide information for the Person Centered Support Plan (PCSP) meetings, staff meetings, therapy treatment plan meetings, and other meetings as directed by the coordinator or director.
  • Assure that nursing service equipment is in good working condition.
  • Record staff training for health practices and medication practices.
  • Review medication error, accident/illness forms and provide follow up as appropriate. Coordinate this review with the ADP director or vice president of CSS.
  • Assist customers with activities of daily living such as toileting, feeding, dressing, whirlpool and hygiene activities.
  • May accompany and assist customers during community recreational or prevocational outings.
  • Protect customers against abuse, mistreatment, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the director.

 

Job Requirements:

Education: Kansas License Nursing required; CPR and First Aid certified;

Experience: 3-5 years minimum experience in programs for persons developmentally disabled or in a nursing home or hospital setting preferred.

Skills: Strong organizational and supervisory skills; Oral and written communication skills; computer skills required; CPR and first aid certified. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Maybe Required.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift and transfer person served using safety precautions. Must be able to use mechanical lifts. Bending and lifting is often required. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate machines such as computers, copier, fax, telephone, and cooking appliances. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Must be physically able to evacuate person served in the event of an emergency. Must be able to drive.

Typical Mental Demands: Requires creativity to analyze methods and procedures to compare client program status to PCSP goals. Must handle diverse work problems on a daily basis. Personal maturity and sensitivity are important attributes. Must be able to organize time well. Must be able to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.

Working Conditions: 40-45 hours per week. Multiple activity environment – may be noisy at times.
