Rehabilitation specialists at the Daniel M. Carney Rehabilitation Engineering Center design, fabricate and repair customized wheelchairs. The certified staff work with people with disabilities of all ages along with their support network to ensure a person's wheelchair meets their specific needs for greater self-reliance and independence at home, school, work and in their communities. Referrals for services come from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services as well as physicians, therapists, insurance companies and associating agencies such as Rainbows United, KETCH, Industries for the Blind and others.

The Carney Center was dedicated in 1985 and since then has averaged 600 customers a year.  The Carney Center includes: six evaluation rooms and power wheelchair training and test area.

Posture Seating Clinics
The CPRF Posture Seating Clinic, in cooperation with Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs, is one of only two such clinics in Kansas and addresses the needs of people with significant physical disabilities through the right seating system and correct posture for optimized mobility (wheelchair). Through state-of-the-art technology, clinic staff can prescribe a wheelchair seating system to provide better body alignment, normalize muscle tone, and inhibit abnormal reflexes. What's more, CPRF's Technical Services staff has the expertise to perform custom design and fabrication to ensure that every installation adapts to individual needs.

What is rehabilitation engineering?
Rehabilitation engineering is using engineering principles and modern technology to provide work-site and home modifications, fabrication of adaptive equipment, and the modifications of commercial health aids to people with disabilities.
