Benefit and Tax Research
Become a research partner

The CPRF Research Division seeks volunteers to participate in a research project.  Qualified applicants are currently employed and have received Social Security disability benefits (SSI, SSDI or both) at any time since 2002.

People who participate in the project will receive a Kansas Benefits Counselors Network benefits analysis, which includes several “What-if?” scenarios about employment options and the Social Security Administration work incentives.  People who have already completed a KBCN benefits analysis will receive an updated version.

Other benefits of participating in this tax research project include:

  • A tax review
  • Tax preparation
  • Amended tax returns (if applicable)
  • Tax planning assistance to help maximize existing tax credits

The preparation and planning assistance will focuses on how a person with a disability can maximize the use of such items as:

  • Child Credit
  • Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Kansas Homestead Refund
  • Retirement Savings Contribution Credit
  • Impairment-Related Work Expenses

All of the above items can be used to reduce the income tax a person pays and in turn decrease tax liability — increasing the likelihood or total amount of a tax refund.

In return, the Benefit and Tax Research team would like to use each volunteer's benefits and tax information anonymously to study how a person's benefits gradually decrease and their tax contributions increase as they begin and continue in employment.

The project is entirely voluntary — volunteers are never under any obligation to join the project or to remain in it.  Personal information will remain entirely confidential and kept secure with access limited only to the research team.

Come along side the CPRF Benefit and Tax Research team to be a research partner to further the financial independence and self-sufficiency of people with disabilities and others.  Click here to become a partner by requesting a Benefit and Tax consultation.
