Do I need to know anything about computers before entering the SACT?
SACT students have begun classes with the widest possible background in computer skills – from none to extensive.  The SACT is ready to meet you where you are personally and help you attain the skills you need to be competitive in a computer-driven job market.

How long are SACT courses?
The length of the course is eight weeks of technical instruction, keyboarding, job readiness skills training, and a week of job search instruction and networking skills.
Return to questions
How often do new classes begin?
Classes begin about every 10 weeks for a total of four times a year.
Return to questions
What are the class hours?
Class hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in Wichita, Kan., and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Atlanta.
Return to questions
Do you have night classes?
No, at this time we do not have classes in the evening or on weekends.
Return to questions
Can I work and go to school at the same time?
That is entirely up to you, the student, to work around your class schedule.  As with any other educational experience, you’ll want to ensure you have adequate time for class (attendance for each class is mandatory for successful completion of the program) and for out of class study.
Return to questions
How do I qualify for this school?
SACT student candidates must have a documented, permanent disability or have other barriers to employment.  Candidates must be unemployed or underemployed with the physical ability and personal motivation to accept fulltime employment upon graduation.
Return to questions
Will I need to provide you with any documentation? If so, what?
Yes, we will need documented proof of the following:
* Proof of disability, if you have one
* Social Security Insurance or Social Security Disability Insurance proof, if applicable
* A high school diploma, GED certificate or college transcripts
* A SACT medical form filled out by your doctor (provided by the SACT)
Return to questions
Is there tuition assistance?
Yes, we have tuition assistance.  If you have a documented disability you could qualify for a federally funded grant.  If you are a displaced worker without a disability then you could qualify for tuition assistance from Workforce Development funds.  Be sure to ask about tuition assistance when you contact us so we can help.
Return to questions
What types of jobs can I expect to be available to me once I graduate?
Each SACT graduate receives job placement assistance before and after graduation through the CPRF Job Placement Department.  As you can imagine, the placement opportunities will vary as widely as the backgrounds and experience each person has.  SACT graduates have accepted positions as administrative assistants, help desk professionals, data entry specialists, clerks, inbound call center representatives and more.  Click here for a list of area employers who have hired SACT graduates.
Return to questions
What can I expect as a starting salary?
Typically, you can expect to be hired into an entry-level position.  As with all wage negotiations, there are things such as past work history, life experience, as well as training and certifications you receive at the SACT, that will help you compete for an acceptable wage.  Know that CPRF Job Placement professionals will be working with you even before graduation to help you meet your employment goals.

Return to questions
Am I expected to find a job after I finish class or, can I further my education?
The SACT is looking for people who are ready to go to work – we require this commitment from each student candidate at the time of application because of outcome requirements that must be met for some types of tuition assistance.  Be sure to talk to an SACT representative to find a plan best for your personal goals.
Return to questions
Should I expect any type of entrance testing?
Yes.  The SACT uses job aptitude, interest and personality assessment tests to help ensure that prospective students enter the school with the highest possible potential for success.  This phase of the school entrance process is provided by the CPRF Vocational Assessment Department, and could consist of any of the following:
* A formal interview with SACT staff
* Computer Operator Aptitude Battery Test
* Career Ability Placement Survey
* Test of Adult Basic Education (reading comprehension and math application at ninth grade level)
* Interest inventory
* Profile Step One Survey
* Medical history and accommodations review
* Work history review
* Support identification, as needed
Return to questions
What if I don’t score high enough on my entrance tests?
Although scores from any of the entrance tests are not released, you will be notified by the school on whether or not you are accepted into the SACT.  If you are not admitted at that time, you will be given an explanation and suggestions on how you might reapply.
Return to questions
What is expected of me while I am attending classes at the SACT?
We have found that the success of our graduates begins the very first day of class.  Attendance is probably the most important factor in completing the course successfully as well as being competitive in the workforce after graduation.  We also expect a high level of personal commitment to your learning experience through a positive attitude and determination to persevere.
Return to questions
What will I learn in SACT classes?
At a minimum, we hope your SACT experience will give you the following:
* Microsoft Windows Basics
* Microsoft Office 2000 Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint
* Keyboarding
* Data entry
* Writing business letters
* Customer service skills
* Career development
* Career search techniques
* Interview skills
* Resume building
Return to questions
Will I receive job placement assistance?
Yes, you will receive job placement assistance up to one year after graduation of the program, sometimes longer.  Visit the CPRF Job Placement Department to learn more about this valuable service.
