Champions for Children celebrate and look ahead

There’s a force in Wichita that makes a tremendous impact on the lives of children with disabilities throughout Kansas. A league of local business leaders, the CPRF Champions for Children with Disabilities Advisory Council, once again pulled out a champion year of fundraising that helps families meet the expense of buying a customized wheelchair necessary for their child to live active lives.

Council members gathered recently during a recognition luncheon to thank last year’s leadership, celebrate this year’s success and welcome the incoming 2006-2007 council chair.

Honorees were: Tristram Felix, Leadership Award and out-going council chairman, IMA of Kansas, Inc.; Dan Taylor Jr., Champion of Champions Award for single-handedly raising the most funds, Taylor Enterprises, Inc.; and the newly appointed chairman, Russ Meyer III, Cessna Aircraft Co.

The event was hosted by the CPRF Board of Directors and was attended by Chairman Dan Carney of Carney Investments, Daniel Taylor of Taylor Enterprises, Inc., Deryl Schuster of Business Loan Center, Inc., Mike Burrus of Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, Joyce Smith of CPRF, Jack Jonas CPRF founder and president emeritus, Patrick Jonas of CPRF, Kenneth Wagnon of Capital Enterprises, Inc., and Donald Sbarra of Sbarra Enterprises.

In addition to recognizing past accomplishments, the council also took the opportunity to look forward to its first annual event, scheduled for June 2 at the Wichita Country Club. “Around the World” will benefit children with disabilities and offer attendees a variety of ethnic cuisine and a silent auction featuring artists with disabilities.
