- The Timbers is an independent living option for people with disabilities and the elderly developed by CPRF and located on its campus in northeast Wichita, Kan.
-
The 100-unit apartment community, which opened in 1979, is the first such facility in the nation. It was funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (202 section 8) for people with disabilities.

Modifications for accessibility are incorporated throughout the community, including: roll-in showers, roll-under sinks and counters; automatic doors; accessible switches; adapted laundry facilities; and an accessible, outdoor swimming pool.
-
-
Residents - from singles to families - enjoy the freedom of independent living while participating in community-based groups, such as the Residents' Council and the Timbers Legislative Committee. Community safety is promoted by on-call staff and security monitoring, and the Timbers is gated to minimize through traffic. The community is also conveniently located near Wichita State University - a feature attractive to those who attend college.
