Daniel M. Carney is chairman of the board of directors of the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation Kansas, Inc., as well as Center Industries Corporation.
Prior to the founding of CPRF, he supported the activities of the United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas and the Kansas Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Ranch in Augusta, Kan., which caters to the recreational needs of children and adults with disabilities.
Mr. Carney and his brother Frank are most known for founding Pizza Hut, Inc., in 1958 while attending Wichita State University. He served as chairman of the board and president until 1970, and continued as chairman through 1973. Afterward, he served on the board of directors through 1977 when Pizza Hut, Inc., was acquired by PepsiCo, Inc.
Subsequent to the merger into PepsiCo, Inc., Mr. Carney has directed his activities toward various business ventures.
Under Mr. Carney's leadership, the Wichita-based CPRF and its entities have grown into an $18 million corporation that serves all types of disabilities. Included under its umbrella is: the Daniel M. Carney Rehabilitation Engineering Center, including the Center's Mobil Shop; accessible, residential housing that includes 100 units at the Timbers; transportation provided by Timber Lines; and Center Industries Corporation, a 501 (c)(3) diverse manufacturing company where 75 percent of the production workforce are people with disabilities. The customer base at CIC is comprised of such well-known corporations as The Boeing Company, Raytheon Aircraft, Cessna Aircraft, Learjet, John Deere, Rubbermaid and Hayes.
