Business Technology Career Opportunities, Inc.
Securing Strategic Partnerships
for Superior Solutions

Furthering its mission to provide employment opportunities to people with disabilities, CPRF formed a nonprofit support organization in 2001 – Business Technology Career Opportunities, Inc. (BTCO).

Located in CPRF’s Daniel J. Taylor Administrative Center in Wichita, Kan., BTCO is an integrated workforce, 75 percent of whom are people with disabilities, all of whom posses proven IT skills.

The technology-oriented company’s lead contract was a project for the United States Census Bureau through NISH.  NISH, formerly the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped, is a national nonprofit agency designated by the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind Or Severely Disabled that provides technical assistance to Community Rehabilitation Programs interested in obtaining federal contracts.  With assistance from NISH, the $27 million U.S. Census Bureau contract was facilitated under the Javits-Wagner-O’Day federal set-aside program for the employment of qualified individuals with disabilities. The project converted Census 2000 digital images to microfilm format for long-term document storage.

BTCO partners in this project included Imaging Solutions Co., Wichita, Kan.; Service-Source’s Precision Images, Alexandria, Va.; and Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., Dallas.  Through these partnerships, the project employed more than 20 people with disabilities.

In addition, BTCO has expanded its capabilities to include large and standard document conversion, working with such formats as routine office documents to large scale maps and engineering drawings.
